Vargan is a traditional music instrument of folks of Yakutiya and Altai (the territory of Russia). It is an essential part of natives’ festivals and is often used in religious rites of Altay’s shamans, i.e. pagan (shamans) priests. Handmade, material of the khomus – brass and steel.
Jew’s harp is an ancient musical instrument. It meets at the different people of the world and has different names. However, most often Jew’s harp is a musical instrument of peoples of the North.
Because of appearance of instrument and simplicity of its sounding we can understand that it came to us from time immemorial. One blow in a uvula gives rise to a sound what won’t be heard by us more anywhere in world around. Vibrations of this self-sounding instrument carry away to mythological sources of mankind from where it came to us, almost without having experienced changes. People since ancient times knew that sounds of jaw harp allow to touch eternity therefore it was always the instrument of spiritual practician, communications with the thin worlds and change of perception.
Having endured the take-off period the of popularity in the Middle Ages, by XX century of mouth harp it was almost forgotten. Many people lost the original models. Such is destiny and the Altai Ozark harp which in the middle of the last century remained only in remote regions of Mountain Altai. But it was restored by masters of Altai and now it is the type of Jew’s harp, most known in Russia.
The Altai trump differs in ease of game, a soft and gentle voice. This musical instrument calms. Jew’s harp is considered a female instrument. Training to play on it easily and pleasantly therefore children and adults very quickly study it. Sounds of a musical instrument bewitch listeners, including animals. According to the Altai legends in old times, women calmed cattle by of Jew’s harp. This music they lulled children and spoke about love. In such affairs it is possible to trust only in the most sensitive and reliable friend!
