The Afro Zula is a fun, one of a kind thumb piano with a punchy percussive sound that seems to invoke the spirits of the forest. People often ask “How could such a small instrument produce such prominent sound?” The secret behind this magic and what differentiates it from any other Thumb Pianos is that the the instrument uses a metal can as a resonator . This produces a powerful kick to the sound.
The harmonic table is made from light pine wood that often taken from old wine cases. It is mounted with 11 hand beaten spring steel tines that are equipped with buzzers that are made from recycled cans. The tines are all beaten, curved and polished by hand making giving each instrument it’s own spirit.
The Afro Zula is decorated with a number of Roots Production designs using water based paints and Pyro engraving. The wood has natural french varnish finish.
Afro Zula come in a number of pentatonic tunings starting usually around A or G but custom tuning and other designs are available on request.
